“Songs That Heal”
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does the winner receive?
A: The winner receives:
- 1 full day session in a recording studio
- A writing session with a Listen Up Music ambassador
- Composerfy Lifetime Membership
- Complimentary attendance to our Mental Health Music Training
Plus all finalists will be featured on our compilation album “The Songwriting Prize Vol. 1”
Q. How much does it cost to enter?
A. Nothing! The Songwriting Prize is completely free for anyone and everyone in Australia.
Q. What format does the file need to be?
A. Please submit an mp3 file, with the file name saved in this format: “EntrantName_STATE_TrackTitle.mp3” e.g. “JaneDoe_VIC_HealingSong.mp3”
Q: Does my entry have to relate to the theme of “Songs that heal"?
A: Ideally, yes. The competition is designed to discover hidden talented songwriters but also very much focused on positive messages supporting mental health and one of the judging categories is attributed to this.
Q: If my song is shortlisted, where will I be asked to perform?
A: Ten songs from each region will be shortlisted and invited to perform live. The four regions are NSW/ACT (Sydney event), VIC/TAS (Melbourne event), SA/WA (Perth event) & QLD/NT (Brisbane event).
Q: Can I submit my song even if I don't live in Australia?
A: You must be a resident of Australia to submit a song. If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to perform your song live and one of our events.
Q. Is there an age restriction for entering?
A: No, but you will need written consent from a parent/guardian if you are under the age of 18.
Q: Does the quality of recording of my entry matter?
A: Not really. As the entries are judged on the songwriting, not the performance or audio quality, you will not be marked down for not having studio quality recording(s). That being said if an instrument is badly out of tune, or the lyrics are impossible to hear, for example, then it will make the judging process more difficult.
Q: Do I have to perform my own song, either on the recording or at a live event?
A: No. The competition is focused on the songwriting, and quality thereof, so it is at your discretion as to who you would like to perform your song.
Q: Are the live events 18+?
A: No. We have dispensation from all of our venues to allow performers under the age of 18 to perform in the venue, although alcohol provision will not be allowed for those under 18.
